From bright murals to breathtaking beaches, every place on this list is sure to give your feed some pop.
1. The Vibrant Streets of Old San Juan
The cobblestone streets of Old San Juan are an Instagram standard, and with good reason.
Pastel-colored colonial buildings line the streets, serving as a colorful backdrop for every turn.
Calle San Sebastián is one of my favorites — the colorful doors and picturesque balconies are inescapable and your camera never leaves your hand.
For one of the most recognizable sights in Old San Juan, make your way to Calle Fortaleza, where the famed umbrella canopy stretches above the street.
It’s one of those places that immediately shouts “Puerto Rico.”
Get there early in the morning to beat the crowds and have the street all to yourself for that perfect photo.
2. Castillo San Felipe del Morro
This 16th-century stronghold peering over the Atlantic Ocean is so photogenic as it is historic.
The ocean views are sweeping and the fortress’s stone walls give the venue a dramatic, cinematic quality.
I remember walking up to the top of the battlements and feeling like I just entered a scene from a pirate movie.
The grassy fields surrounding it are also ideal for wide-angle shots, as well as candid photos of people flying kites, a popular local pastime here.
3. El Yunque National Forest
One of Puerto Rico’s star attractions, its famous rainforest is pure magic for nature lovers and photographers.
Every angle is worth taking — the lush greenery, the cascading waterfalls, the tropical wildlife.
One of the most iconic places in the area, La Mina Falls, with its cascading, rushing waters surrounded by thick jungle, is a must-get shot.
You can also hike up the Yokahu Tower for panoramic views that extend all the way to the coast. It’s a perfect perch from which to capture El Yunque’s sweeping beauty.
4. Mosquito Bay in Vieques
This bioluminescent bay looks as if pulled from a sci-fi movie.
The water gleams with a surreal blue light created by microorganisms at night.
It’s one of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had and offers some incredible long-exposure photos.
Kayaking in the luminous waters is an unforgettable experience. Pro tip: Go on a new moon for the brightest bioluminescence.
5. Flamenco Beach, Culebra
Flamenco Beach is the most beautiful beach in the world, and your Instagram followers will agree.
This place offers turquoise waters and soft white sand.
Be sure to get a shot of the iconic abandoned tank adorned with vibrant graffiti—its vivid color palette against the backdrop of the beach makes for a cool contrast.
I’ll never forget how peaceful it was to sit on the shore here, taking it all in.
6. Ponce’s Parque de Bombas
This former firehouse-turned-museum in Ponce is about as eye-catching as they get.
Its bold red-and-black striped exterior also makes it a striking backdrop for your photos.
Inside are artifacts that chronicle Puerto Rico’s firefighting history, but the real star is the building itself.
To best capture this architectural jewel’s full glory, take a shot from across the street.
7. Pink Salt Flats at Cabo Rojo
The pink salt flats of Cabo Rojo appear to come straight from a dream.
The dazzling pink tones of the saltwater pools give a surreal, otherworldly vibe that is Instagram gold.
Go at sunset when the warm tones of the sky mix perfectly with the pink water — it is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
Combine this stop with a trip to nearby Cabo Rojo Lighthouse for even more stunning views.
8. The Murals of Santurce
Santurce, an artsy neighborhood in San Juan, is a street art lover’s paradise.
Every wall is filled with colorful murals that depict Puerto Rican culture and creativity.
Every single piece is a masterpiece, and walking the streets here is like browsing an open-air gallery.
Do not skip Calle Cerra, a central street in Santurce’s mural scene. I liked how each mural told a story; you could easily spend hours here just absorbing it all.
9. Cueva Ventana
Cueva Ventana, or “Window Cave,” boasts one of the most breathtaking views in Puerto Rico.
After a brief hike, you’ll arrive at a mouth of the cave that frames a spectacular view of the Río Grande Valley below.
It’s one of those spots where you can’t do anything but stop and soak it all in.
The hike itself is part of the adventure, with bats flapping above you and the cascading sounds of nature surrounding you. And if you visit this spot, be sure to bring a wide-angle lens to capture its full beauty.
10. Crash Boat Beach, Aguadilla
Not only is Crash Boat Beach a pretty beach; it’s also an abundance of colorful, fun photos.
The pier here is one of their favorite hangout spots.
Bright blue and yellow posts add pops of color to photos, especially when set against the water’s crystal-clear surface.
The bustling energy of the beach, people diving off the pier and bright fishing boats scattered along the shore, adds a fun element to your shots.
