The Pena Palace is Sintra’s crowning glory, with its colorful hues and fantastical architecture.
Walking into a fairy tale, with its combination of Gothic, Manueline and Moorish styles of architecture.
Wandering through its halls and gardens, you cannot but feel a sense of wonder and awe.
Another don’t-miss is Quinta da Regaleira, a palace that looks like it came straight from a mystery novel.
There is a ton of hidden tunnels, secret passages and beautiful gardens that will engage your imagination at this location.
The Initiation Well, whose spiraling staircase is especially mesmerizing.
b. Breathtaking Landscapes
In addition to its palaces, Sintra has some of the most beautiful scenery Portugal has to offer.
For open air lovers, the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park has beautiful hiking routes in greenery and towards cliffs.
And then there is Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of mainland Europe.
The cliffs, coupled with the Atlantic Ocean laid out infront of you is a memory you won’t forget in a hurry.

Once, after I’d taken a trip to the Sintra area alone, I got lost in the gardens at Quinta da Regaleira.

Book lovers will love it, and those who walk through the ornate interiors and stunning staircase will find nirvana.

Porto is also a mecca for food lovers.
A visit wouldn’t be complete without tasting the world-famous Port wine.
A cellar tour and tastings will show you why this magnificent, sweet wine is so cherished.
And don’t leave without tasting Francesinha, a hearty sandwich popular in the area. It’s ideal fuel for a day of exploring.

The Benagil Cave is a hidden wonder you can only visit by boat or kayak.
Inside the cave, it opens up into a sandy beach and natural skylight, creating a magical atmosphere that feels like a hidden paradise.
