10 Beachwear Trends for the Summer Season
I don’t know how to explain it but give me summer beach days and I’m just alive.
From the sound of the waves to the sensation of warm sand between my toes, it’s an unrivaled escape.
And although I’ve always enjoyed planning my beach trips, assembling stylish beachwear has become its own fun.
As summer homes in on us, beachwear trends this season are all about snapping the sartorial rules and embracing effortless comfort with a dose of audacity.
Whether you’re chilling out on the sand, plunging into the waves or attending a beach party, these trends are sure to turn heads.
Here are 10 beachwear trends worth trying that’ll take your summer wardrobe to the next level.
1. Crochet Everything
Crochet is having a major moment, and it’s reigning all over beachwear this season.
From bikinis to cover-ups, this texture instantly infuses a vintage, handcrafted feel to your look. Pair a crochet bikini with big sunglasses or slip on a crochet dress for a boho-chic vibe.
I wore this white crochet cover-up on a trip to the beach recently and it was also the perfect Instagram shot against the ocean backdrop.
2. High-Waisted Swimsuits
Retro high-waisted swimsuits are all over this summer.
And not only are they ultra-flattering, but they also offer extra coverage, all while looking chic. To remain in fashion, go for vibrant or prints such as gingham or floral.
It’s my favorite for beach days when I want a combination of comfort and vintage elegance.”
3. Statement One-Piece Swimsuits
Bye-bye basic one-pieces — boldness is the name of the game this season.
Look for cuts with bold cutouts, asymmetric straps or bright prints. Metallics are also having a moment, bringing a little shimmer to your beach ensemble.
I wore a one-piece with a dramatic cutout on the side the other day, and it was an absolute showstopper.
4. Sheer Cover-Ups
Sheer fabrics are having a moment, which makes them ideal for layering over your swimwear.
Think fluttery maxi dresses, mesh tops or billowy skirts that flash just enough bikini. Choose lighter shades, like pastel or neutral tones, for an effortless, chic vibe.
On my most recent trip I wore a sheer beige cover-up, which felt breezy and put-together enough for under-the-sun lounging.
5. Vibrant Neon Colors
Summer is the time for daring colors, and neon is making a major comeback.
This year, neon bikinis, sarongs and even sandals are all the rage. Fuchsia, electric green and vivid orange have become particularly popular.
This summer, I added a neon orange bikini to my collection — and it has completely changed my golden hour photos.
6. Matching Co-Ords
Matching two-piece sets are a fashionable alternative to the usual beach cover-up.
Whether it’s a crop top paired with flowy pants or a bralette and matching mini skirt, co-ords allow for a put together outfit for minimal effort.
I recently wore a tropical-print top and set to a sunset beach party and it was as trendy as it was comfortable.
7. Minimalist Monochrome
On the other side of neon, minimalist monochrome is another huge trend.
Picture sleek black or white swimsuits and minimal gold- or silver-tone jewelry. Top it off with a straw hat for understated elegance.
My favorite way to do the beach for something a bit more classic but still stylish.
8. Bucket Hats
Bucket hats are back in style and even better, they’re offering sun protection.
Pick one in a cheerful print, such as tie-dye or animal patterns, to make a statement or neutral tones for a more pared-down vibe. Style it with your go-to bikini or cover-up for effortless beach fashion.
On a recent trip I wore my pastel bucket hat and it made the outfit come together and shaded me all day.
9. Sarongs with Bold Prints
The sarong is a beachwear staple, and this season the prints are bright and eye-popping.
A sarong can turn the simplest swimsuit into a tasteful ensemble, with options ranging from tropical patterns to abstract designs. Wear it as a halter dress or tie it in the front and drape it around your waist.
It was on my last trip that I picked up a floral sarong as the sartorial finishing touch I desperately needed, and it became my go-to for fast, easy style.
10. Sporty Swimwear
Athleisure swimwear serves form and function.
Seek out racerback tops, zip-front details or sporty stripes on your swimsuit. That’s great if you’ll be active in the water, paddleboarding or playing volleyball.
On a kayaking trip, I wore a sporty bikini, and it fit well and stylishly stayed in place.
