10 Instagram-Worthy Beach Photo Poses to Try This Summer

There’s something about the beach that brings out everyone’s inner photographer.

The natural lighting, the shimmering water, and the soft sands are the perfect backdrop for creating those envy-worthy Instagram shots.

Personally, some of my favorite travel memories are tied to capturing that one perfect beach photo that forever reminds me of the blissful moment.

But getting those shots isn’t just about the setting—it’s also about the pose.

Whether you want to look effortlessly chic or full-on adventurous, nailing your beach photo pose makes all the difference.

Here are 10 fun and flattering poses to try on your next trip to the coast!

1. The Walk Along the Shore

This is a classic, easy-to-nail pose that captures the beauty of movement.

Walk barefoot along the shoreline, letting your toes sink into the sand as the waves gently wash up. Keep your shoulders relaxed, and let your dress or cover-up flow naturally in the breeze.

One of my go-to tricks is looking back over my shoulder while walking—it adds a candid, carefree vibe to the photo.

2. The Over-the-Shoulder Glance

Perfect for showing off your outfit or hat, this pose screams effortless charm.

Stand with your back to the camera, then turn your head slightly to look over your shoulder. Position your arms naturally—maybe holding onto your hat or tucking your hair behind your ear.

I once used this pose to showcase a woven sun hat with “Bon Voyage” embroidered on the brim—it was an instant hit!

3. Sitting on the Sand

Nothing says relaxed beach vibes like sitting on the soft sand.

Sit cross-legged or with your legs stretched out, leaning slightly back on your hands. Look out at the horizon or close your eyes as if soaking in the sun.

On my last trip, I did this while surrounded by seashells, and it gave the photo such a peaceful aesthetic.

4. The Beach Towel Flat Lay

Use your towel as a prop and lie flat on your stomach for a playful shot.

Prop yourself up on your elbows, holding a book, drink, or even sunglasses for added interest. Let the camera catch the towel’s fun design and the sand beneath it.

I tried this with a tropical-patterned towel in Costa Rica, and it looked like something straight out of a summer ad!

5. The “Wading in Water” Pose

Step into the shallow waves for a dreamy, romantic feel.

Stand facing the ocean, letting the water lap at your feet, or turn slightly to the side with one hand gently skimming the water. Pair this with a flowy dress or beach cover-up for added movement.

I captured this pose during a sunset in Bali, and it gave the photo such a magical golden-hour glow.

6. Holding Your Hat Against the Breeze

When the sea breeze hits, make it work for you by incorporating movement into your pose.

Stand tall, with one hand holding onto the brim of your hat and the other gently resting on your hip. Let your hair and outfit flow naturally in the wind.

I tried this while wearing a straw sun hat, and the wind added such a dynamic touch to the photo.

7. Lying in the Sand

For a laid-back, sultry vibe, lie on your back in the sand with your arms stretched overhead.

Angle your legs slightly for a flattering look, and let your hair fan out around you. The key here is to look natural and relaxed—almost as if you fell asleep in the sun.

This pose turned into one of my most-liked photos when I tried it during a quiet afternoon at a hidden beach in Greece.

8. The Playful Splash

Get candid by splashing water in the air and letting the camera capture the moment.

Stand knee-deep in the ocean, scoop up some water, and toss it playfully toward the sky. Smile or laugh naturally—it’s all about the joy in this pose.

I’ve used this on countless trips, and it always brings out the fun, carefree energy of a beach day.

9. The Long Shadow Shot

Make use of the golden hour to create stunning shadow art.

Stand tall with the sun behind you, letting your shadow stretch across the sand. Use props like hats or surfboards to add unique shapes to your silhouette.

This pose became a creative favorite for me when I experimented with it on a beach in California—it’s simple but so artistic.

10. The “Relaxing with a Drink” Pose

Nothing captures vacation vibes better than lounging with a refreshing drink in hand.

Sit back in a beach chair or lean against a rock, holding a colorful cocktail, coconut, or fruit juice. Add sunglasses or a floppy hat to complete the look.

I once did this with a pineapple drink on a beach in Puerto Rico, and it instantly became the most saved photo on my feed.
